It’s not just about being a good host when someone comes to visit. It’s about believing that everyone who enters the Village belongs here — and that each of us has a role in making the experience feel welcoming, generous and connected.
Whether you’re welcoming a guest, helping someone find the compost bins, sharing a snack from the community kitchen or simply noticing that someone looks like they could use a little help — you’re hosting.
And we believe hospitality is something you can feel.
It starts at the front door.
When we give tours of Kintsugi Village, we love watching this value come to life.
It isn’t just one person’s job to welcome our guests. Our teachers greet them. Our staff stop to say hello. Our kids might wave, introduce themselves or invite someone into what they’re doing.
It’s not rehearsed. It’s not a performance. It’s a reflection of the culture we’re trying to create: You’re here. We see you. Come on in.
It happens every morning at school.
Each day, our Village begins with a welcome.
There’s music playing. Teachers are greeting children and families as they arrive. Kids are saying hello to one another. There are conversations, hugs, smiles and the occasional sleepy face making its way through the door.
Before we begin learning, we begin by being in community.
There is something powerful about being welcomed into a space every day — knowing that someone is expecting you, happy to see you and ready to start the day alongside you.
That’s hosting, too.
It extends to everyone who uses the Village.
Kintsugi Village is also a place where people gather, create, celebrate, learn and share experiences.
When someone hosts an event or experience at the Village, we care deeply about how their guests experience the space.
We think about the little things: How are people received when they arrive? Does the space feel cared for? How is the food prepared and shared? Do people understand where they are and why this place exists?
We invite guests to take a tour, not because they have to, but because context creates connection.
We want people to understand the history of the building, the work happening here, the children learning here, the artists creating here, the gardens growing here and the larger vision for what Kintsugi Village can become.
Because when you know the story of a place, you experience it differently. And when you understand what you’re helping to build, you become part of the story, too.
The Village isn’t only ours.
When you walk through the garden, the kids pull you in — invite you to hunt for cucamelons hiding under the leaves, or cherry tomatoes tucked where you’d least expect them. No one asks them to include you. They just do, because somewhere along the way, they’ve absorbed the idea that this is their Village too, and the people in it are theirs to welcome. That’s the whole thing, really.
This Village is for everyone who wants to feel they belong somewhere. So we’re not asking you to simply visit. We’re asking you to be the Village — to learn alongside us, grow with us and share in Kintsugi Moments – the small sparks of connection, transformation and discovery that happen when people actually show up for each other.
And that starts with feeling like you belong here. Once you do, you become a host too — someone ready to welcome the next person in and help them feel seen, valued and part of something.
And now, we’re getting ready to host our biggest gathering yet.
On October 15, from 6–9pm, we’ll open the doors for Night at the Village, our first official fundraiser and our one-year anniversary celebration. It’s hard to believe how much has happened since we opened these doors.
So, naturally, we’re going to celebrate the way we know how: by hosting.
We’re creating an evening that invites people to wander, discover, taste, connect and experience the Village for themselves.
We’ll share the spaces we’ve built, the people who bring them to life and the vision that continues to grow. And, of course, we’ll share some good food along the way.
But more than anything, we want people to feel Kintsugi Village.
To experience the care that goes into this place. To meet the people who make it what it is. To understand what we mean when we say that this Village belongs to everyone.
And to see how they might become part of it.
