Our Early Childhood Education Center serves curious little minds ages 3-5, blending Reggio Emilia-inspired learning with hands-on experiences in the arts, food and nature. Position Overview
We’re looking for a passionate and community-minded Arts Program Director to bring our arts programming to life! This person will design and oversee the Artist Incubator, manage the gallery, run the maker spaces and organize kids and community art classes. They will create an environment where artists can thrive, collaborate and take their creative careers to the next level. The Director will also work closely with other Kintsugi Village leaders to weave the arts into the fabric of our community. Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Leadership:
- Design and launch a six-month Artist Incubator program that blends artistic growth with business education.
- Develop workshops, mentorship opportunities and networking events to equip artists with the skills they need to sustain a creative career.
- Oversee and manage maker spaces, ensuring they are well-equipped and accessible to incubator artists and the broader community.
- Foster an inclusive, inspiring and supportive environment where artists can take risks, experiment and grow.
Gallery & Exhibitions:
- Manage the Kintsugi Village gallery, curating exhibitions that showcase residency artists and other local talent.
- Organize and oversee artist showcases, exhibitions and pop-up events that celebrate the work of our incubator artists.
- Collaborate with guest curators, artists and community partners to bring dynamic and thought-provoking exhibitions to life.
Artist Recruitment & Support:
- Identify and recruit emerging Detroit artists from diverse disciplines and backgrounds.
- Serve as a mentor and guide, supporting artists in their creative and professional journeys.
- Connect artists with industry professionals, potential collaborators and business opportunities.
Community Engagement & Collaboration:
- Organize and lead community art classes, making creativity accessible to all.
- Work closely with other Kintsugi Village directors to integrate the arts into broader programming, including culinary, educational and wellness initiatives.
- Build relationships with local arts organizations, galleries and businesses to expand opportunities for participating artists.
- Develop partnerships and seek funding opportunities to support the sustainability and growth of the arts program.
Qualifications & Experience
- Passion for the arts and a deep commitment to supporting emerging artists.
- Experience in arts administration, program development, gallery management or creative entrepreneurship.
- Strong leadership skills with a collaborative and nurturing approach.
- A knack for building relationships, networking and connecting people to opportunities.
- Knowledge of the business side of the arts—grant writing, marketing, pricing work, etc.—and a desire to share that knowledge.
- Experience curating and managing art exhibitions.
- Familiarity with maker spaces and community-driven creative programs.
- A love for Detroit and its vibrant artistic community.
