Starting the year…the Kintsugi Village way!

As it happens this time of year, we’re taking the time to reflect on last year’s accomplishments and lessons learned, while looking ahead to 2025 with excitement and anticipation (and a healthy dose of anxiety!).

At Kintsugi Village, we’re mostly grateful for the opportunity to do this work, and to dedicate our time to having an impact on a local Detroit neighborhood. We looked back to 2024 and to setting up our mission, securing our property in Corktown and many meetings with our design and construction partners to create a beautiful space and community hub. One of the events we enjoyed the most was our first meeting with the neighbors, listening to their sound advice and finding ways to collaborate.

In looking to 2025, we will use our experience leading the Small Giants Community, where the visioning, values and purpose process was an annual ritual. Applying this to Kintsugi Village, here are our goals for the year:

  • Complete the construction process on our building and community garden
  • Meet as many of the kids, families and neighbors and built relationships
  • Finalize our plan to hire our initial staffing and leadership team
  • Welcome our first groups of young kiddos in the fall!
  • Launch and execute our fundraising plan and strategy
  • Have fun and enjoy the journey!

Our core values are the following:

  • Listening first
  • Embracing vulnerability
  • Being responsive
  • Adding a personal touch
  • Creating great experiences

Our mission is to enhance the lives of kids and families through education, mindfulness, art and culinary experiences.

Always tying everything together will be our commitment to the Kintsugi philosophy, which allows us to experience challenges but to heal with grace and resiliency.

We look forward to working with all of you and making new friends along the way.
