A Beautiful Beginning: Kintsugi Village’s Grand Opening Celebration
Last weekend marked a milestone moment for Kintsugi Village — our official grand opening! What began as a dream to build a place of creativity, connection, and learning in Detroit has now come to life. On a crisp fall day filled with joy, laughter, and music, we welcomed neighbors, families, and friends to experience the magic of Kintsugi Village for the very first time.
From the moment guests arrived, the energy was palpable. The day kicked off with a drum line performance that set the tone for celebration, followed by tours of our new campus — a vibrant space that includes our early childhood education classrooms, community kitchen, artist studios, and outdoor spaces where people can gather, learn, and create together.

Throughout the day, the grounds were alive with local food vendors, hands-on activities for kids, and the sounds of community connection. Our littlest guests especially loved visiting the goats, a joyful reminder that nature and play are at the heart of what we do here.

Founders Paul Spiegelman and Hamsa Yaqo shared their reflections on the journey that brought Kintsugi Village to life — describing it as their “love letter to Detroit.” Their words echoed what so many guests felt that day: this isn’t just a campus, it’s a movement. A place built with intention, to bring people together across generations and backgrounds.
As the afternoon sun lit up the murals and garden paths, conversations sparked between artists, educators, neighbors, and community leaders. It was exactly what we envisioned Kintsugi Village to be — a living, breathing ecosystem of creativity and care.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us, from our incredible volunteers and local vendors to the families and partners who continue to support this vision. The grand opening was just the beginning — and we can’t wait for what’s next.
In 2026, we’ll be launching our Artist Residency Program, giving Detroit artists the opportunity to grow their craft with access to gallery and studio spaces while learning the business side of art. We’ll also open our culinary kitchen, expanding our ability to prepare meals for the children of Kintsugi Village School, host chefs, and bring people together through food and community events.
This is only the start of the story — and we’re so glad you’re a part of it.
Welcome to Kintsugi Village. Welcome home.
