We Broke Ground…

It may have been a chilly March day, but that didn’t stop nearly 150 of you from bundling up and celebrating with us at our official groundbreaking! To say we were overwhelmed (in the best way possible!) would be an understatement. Your energy, your enthusiasm, and your belief in this vision warmed us more than the biggest cup of hot cocoa ever could.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan summed it up best: “It’s a good day for Corktown!” And he was absolutely right. It was a great day—not just for Corktown, but for everyone who believes in the power of community, creativity and transformation. We were honored to hear heartfelt words from Todd Sachse, CEO of Sachse Construction, Kristin Dayag, City of Detroit District 6 Chief of Staff, and Cornetta Lane-Smith, who all shared their excitement for Kintsugi Village and the vibrant community we’re building together. And guiding us through it all? The wonderful Rhonda Walker, journalist and news anchor, who brought her signature warmth and fabulousness to the event.

After the ceremony, we threw on some hard hats and took a tour of the space. And even though the walls aren’t up yet, we could already see it—the magic of what’s to come.

But now, the real work begins. With construction officially underway, it’s time to build something just as important as the walls and foundations—the Kintsugi Village team! We’re looking for passionate people who want to be part of something special, something bigger than any one of us. If that sounds like you (or someone you know), stay tuned for hiring updates.

And this is just the beginning! Our first big milestone is right around the corner—this fall, we’ll be opening the doors to our early childhood education center, the heart of Kintsugi Village. But we’re not stopping there! Our artist incubator, retreat center, culinary kitchen and community garden are all coming to life behind the scenes, growing right alongside this vision.

So here’s to breaking ground in more ways than one. To a future where art, education, food and community flourish together. And to you—the believers, the dreamers and the doers—who are making Kintsugi Village a reality.

Stay warm, stay inspired and stay with us on this incredible journey!
